FAQs

Why do I need teething pads — can't I just wash the carrier instead?
You can wash the carrier, but washing it frequently is both inconvenient and not recommended repeated machine washing degrades the carrier's fabric, padding, and buckle elastics over time, shortening its lifespan. Teething babies will often turn to the carrier's shoulder straps to chew, leaving them wet with drool and saliva that attracts dirt and stains. Teething pads solve this problem at the source — they wrap around the shoulder straps and intercept the drool before it reaches the carrier fabric. Simply snap the pads on before each carry and toss them in the wash when needed, rather than washing the entire carrier each time. It's a much faster cycle: the pads wash and dry quickly, whereas a full carrier needs to be air dried completely before use. For daily carriers, most parents find teething pads extend the time between full carrier washes from every few days to every few weeks
Which Ergobaby carriers are the teething pads compatible with?
The teething pads attach to any Ergobaby carrier, with the exception of the Aura Wrap and the Lift Hip Seat — both of which don't have structured shoulder straps that the pads are designed to wrap around. This means they are compatible with the full range of soft structured carriers including the Omni Classic, Omni Deluxe, Embrace, Alta Hip Seat, and older models. The shoulder strap drool pads are best for babies carried in the inward-facing position, where baby's head naturally rests against and turns toward the shoulder straps. They also work with many other brands of soft-structured carriers, making them a useful accessory even outside the Ergobaby range
What are they made from — is it safe for my baby to chew on?
The teething pads are made from double-layered 100% cotton for extra absorbency, giving baby a soft, natural surface to mouth and chew on. Cotton is one of the safest fabric choices for anything that comes into regular contact with a baby's mouth it contains no synthetic coatings, no chemical treatments, and no materials that could break off or be ingested. The organic cotton version uses 100% GOTS-certified organic terry cloth cotton — the Global Organic Textile Standard being one of the most rigorous textile certifications available, confirming no harmful pesticides, dyes, or finishes were used in production. For parents who want the highest assurance of safety for something their baby will be mouthing daily, the organic version is the recommended choice. Both versions are CPSIA compliant
How do they attach, and will they stay in place during carries?
The teething pads wrap around each shoulder strap and fasten with a snap closure, making them easy to put on and remove. The snap attachment is also reversible, so you can flip the pad to a clean side mid-carry if one side becomes heavily soaked — a small but genuinely practical feature during a long outing. The pads are sized and shaped to sit securely on the strap without shifting, bunching, or sliding during movement. They stay in place whether you're walking, bouncing, or going up and down stairs, so you're not adjusting them throughout the carry
How do I wash them, and how often should I?
The teething pads are machine washable — wash on cold with mild detergent, free from bleach, perfumes, or optical brighteners, which can irritate baby's skin on anything they mouth. Unfasten the snaps before washing and either wash alone or in a mesh laundry bag to prevent the snap hardware from snagging other items. Air dry rather than tumble dry to preserve the cotton fibres and snap elasticity. How often you wash them depends on how heavily your baby drools many parents rinse them by hand after each carry and run them through the machine every two to three days during peak teething. Having two sets on rotation means you always have a clean pair ready and never have to skip a carry while waiting for the pads to dry
