FAQs

Can I use it from birth, and do I need to buy an infant insert separately?
No infant insert needed! The Omni Classic is newborn-ready straight out of the box. It can be used with a newborn from a minimum weight of 3.2kg and a minimum height of 50.8cm, in the front carry position facing you. The Omni Classic features an adjustable bucket seat and adjustable back panel that support baby through each changing stage, so the carrier grows with your baby without any additional purchases. It supports babywearing all the way to toddlerhood — suitable from 3.2kg to 20.4kg, from birth to approximately four years old making it a single carrier that covers the full babywearing journey rather than a product you'll outgrow and replace
What carry positions are available and when can I use each one?
The Omni Classic offers four carry positions — front inward facing, front outward facing, hip carry, and back carry each suited to a different stage of your baby's development. Front inward facing is available from birth and is the go-to position for newborns who need full head and neck support. Front outward facing requires your baby to have strong head and neck control, typically around 5–6 months. Hip carry and back carry can both be started once your baby demonstrates strong head and neck control, can sit unassisted, and weighs a minimum of 7.8kg — typically around six months. Each position is supported by the patented bucket seat and adjustable back panel to help maintain ergonomic positioning for both baby and caregiver throughout
Is it safe for my baby's hip development?
The International Hip Dysplasia Institute has determined that all Ergobaby carriers are hip-healthy, and every carrier exceeds global safety requirements, passing rigorous testing including an 80-point inspection. The key to this recognition is the bucket seat design — it provides hip-healthy support that keeps baby's knees at or above hip level in the natural "M-position," which is the posture recommended for healthy hip socket development. This matters most in the early months before the hip joints have fully formed, and it's the reason carriers that allow baby's legs to dangle straight down are not recognised as hip-healthy. The adjustable back panel also means the seat width can be narrowed or widened as your baby grows, maintaining this ergonomic position from newborn through to toddler
How comfortable is it for the parent, and does it work for both mums and dads?
The Omni Classic features a comfort-focused carry system with even weight distribution, lumbar support, and cross-back or H-back strap options with easy access adjustment points for quick, precise fit and smooth transitions between caregivers. The ability to choose between crossed or parallel shoulder straps is particularly useful for partners with different body shapes — crossed straps let you position them where they're most comfortable for your specific shoulder width, and because all the buckling is done at the front, it's also appreciated by parents with less shoulder or back mobility who find it difficult to reach behind to fasten a chest strap. The strap adjustment markings also make it easy to record each wearer's settings and return to them quickly, which is genuinely useful when you're passing the carrier between two parents of different sizes
Can I breastfeed in it?
All Omni carriers support breastfeeding in the carrier — to do so, loosen the shoulder straps slightly and lower baby to breast height in the front inward facing position. Always stay seated while nursing in the carrier and reposition baby with their face clear after feeding. The patented 3-way head and neck support accommodates awake time, nap time, and growing baby, and the carrier is machine washable an important practical feature for something that gets daily use and comes into direct contact with milk, food, and general baby mess. Use mild detergent free of bleach, perfumes, and optical brighteners, and fasten all buckles before washing
