FAQs

Is a wrap harder to use than a structured carrier and how long does it take to learn?
This is the question that stops many parents from trying a wrap, and the honest answer is: it takes a little practice, but the Aura is specifically designed to make the learning curve as gentle as possible. The Aura Wrap can be pre-tied before you pick up your baby, making it easier to pop baby in once it's already secured around you. Colour-coded seams guide you through the tying process, so there's no guesswork about which layer goes where. Most parents find they have a confident, comfortable tie by their third or fourth attempt. The wrap offers more control over a snug fit than a structured carrier, making it perfect for your baby no matter their shape or size — which is why many parents find it actually easier to get a secure newborn fit in a wrap than in a buckle carrier. Ergobaby also provides step-by-step instructional videos for every carry position, which are genuinely useful in the first week of use
From what age can I use it, and will it last through the whole first year?
The Aura Wrap is newborn-ready from birth, starting at a minimum weight of 3.2kg, with no infant insert needed. It can comfortably carry up to 11.3kg approximately 12 months making it well-suited to the entire fourth trimester and beyond. As your baby grows older and heavier and starts wanting to face outward or be carried on your back, transitioning to a soft structured carrier is recommended, as these offer padded shoulder straps, a waistbelt with lumbar support, a hood, storage pockets, and greater versatility in carry positions including outward facing, hip carry, and back carry. Many families use the Aura as their primary carrier for the first 6–9 months and then transition to an Omni Classic or Omni Deluxe as their baby grows and their carrying needs change
Is it safe for my baby's hips and spine?
The Aura's ergonomic design supports the essential spread-squat position, promoting a healthy M-shape leg position and healthy development for your baby's back, head, and neck. The wrap's stretchy fabric moulds to your baby's body and yours, keeping them in the correct rounded-spine, knees-above-hips posture that mirrors how a newborn naturally sits when held. One important safety note: Ergobaby advises against using the Aura in a forward-facing carry, as it places too much pressure on baby's spine and joints as well as the wearer's back. Forward-facing carry is only recommended once baby is developmentally ready, using a carrier specifically designed for that position such as the Omni. Back carry is also not recommended with the Aura, as the complex nature of the position with a stretchy wrap carries a greater chance of accidental injury to baby
What fabric is it made from, and which version is best for the Australian climate?
The Aura is available in the traditional soft and stretchy knit wrap, made from sustainably sourced Tencel™ Lyocell fibres a silky-soft, breathable fabric derived from eucalyptus and acacia wood that is naturally temperature-regulating and gentle against newborn skin. The Tencel blend keeps baby cooler than standard cotton or polyester wraps, which is a meaningful difference in Australia's warm climate. OEKO-TEX certified, confirming they are free from harmful substances important for a product worn directly against a newborn's skin for hours at a time
How do I wash it, and does it stretch out over time?
The Aura is machine washable at 30°C — milk, vomit, and general newborn mess clean off well. It is not tumble dryer safe, so air drying is required. Lay it flat or hang it over a drying rack rather than a single rail to prevent the weight of the wet fabric pulling it out of shape while damp. Wash on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag, and use mild detergent free of bleach, perfumes, or optical brighteners to preserve the Tencel fibres. On the question of stretching: the Aura's fabric is designed to have a degree of stretch that allows it to contour to your body and baby's this is intentional and gives the wrap its snug, customised fit. The fabric is not designed to stretch permanently with use, but as with all knit fabrics, avoiding high-heat washing and tumble drying preserves the elasticity and extends the wrap's lifespan significantly
