Which Baby Carrier is Best For My Family?

As an expecting parent, there are so many decisions to make. What do I need? What can I do without? Everyone has an opinion on the “must have” baby products out there. And when it comes to babywearing, that’s no exception. There are so many benefits to babywearing, including calming a crying baby and allowing parents to be hands-free, that the decision to get a baby carrier is a no-brainer as far as we are concerned! With countless options and products, making a can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help.

Here at Ergobaby, we offer two options for your babywearing journey called Ages & Stages or All-in-One. Neither journey is better than the other, it’s all about personal preference. Perhaps you’d like an option that allows your baby to face out when developmentally appropriate, about 4-6 months old. Maybe you’re less concerned about facing out and just want simplicity of inward snuggles. Whatever babywearing journey you decide to take, Ergobaby is here to support you! Let’s explore a little more.

Ages and Stages

During baby’s first year, they grow and develop at an astounding rate.  There are many milestones along the way to mark their first year: holding their head up, rolling over, and crawling to name a few. The ages and stages of baby’s development can help parents understand when baby is ready for certain activities, including which positions work best in a baby carrier, as well as which baby carrier is best for baby’s age and stage of development. To follow the Ages & Stages path for babywearing, we recommend the Aura Baby Wrap or the Embrace Baby Carrier for the tender and cozy first three months, then the Omni Carriers once baby is ready to shift focus from parent to world and explore.

Embrace Newborn Baby Carrier

Imagine life from the perspective of a new baby. So many bright lights, so much activity. You’re not even really sure where you are or how you got here. But you have these all too familiar sounds, familiar smells and an overwhelming desire to get back close to a place of warmth, comfort, nourishment, and safety.

As a newborn, both baby and mother need time to adjust to their new way of life, staying in and resting and healing.  This time is often referred to as the First 40 Days or the fourth trimester. Honoring the first 40 days allows for parents to ease into their new roles as parents, while gently easing baby into the world.

The Embrace Baby Carrier is soft, cozy and super comfortable, the sweetest way to stay connected. No complicated wrapping or tying, the Embrace is a simple way to keep you and baby close as you find your new rhythm together. This carrier is offered in two different fabrics and a variety of colors that are as unique as each mother and baby.

Aura Baby Wrap

Our babies are born immature, they need us for their very survival, as they have many years and development ahead of them to reach that place of independence. As soon as they are born we aim to get them right on moms chest as the evidence for Kangaroo Care, also known as skin to skin, is incredible. This is where a baby wrap comes in.

Why choose a baby wrap instead of a buckle carrier for the newborn months?  It’s mainly about preference.  A baby wrap has a bit more of a learning curve, yes, but you also can make more customizations than a buckle carrier. While there is always the option of using your buckle newborn carrier from birth, the softness and support a wrap offers a much different experience for newborns and their caregivers. Many find the ability to customize the fit and pre-tie to allow for popping the baby in and out to be an excellent and most enjoyable experience.  Also, many parents prefer a baby wrap as it’s much easier to practice skin-to-skin right from the start. We’ve made our baby wrap simple with lightweight, soft, and supportive fabric.
